I have just received my reminder for a Historic vehicle.
DVLA know I have insurance, and they know I have an MOT for the vehicle.
They know that when I process the reminder, I won't be paying
anything for it. While I have insurance and MOT there is no need
for me to apply for a SORN.
So why send me a reminder? Why not save the postage and just renew?
Bloody red tape, eh Jim? My old Vitesse MkII has been off road for
almost twenty years now officially (hem hem!), and AFAIK no longer
'exists' as far as the DVLA, police and presumably MI5,6, NSA, CIA,
FBI etc etc etc are concerned - unless on satellite photos? Fine by
me, that old laurel hedge has its uses! I'm very curious to see (if
not actually TRY, ahem) what would happen if I fired her up and went
for a spin - after needless to say getting a cover note! - and went
past a few local ANPR cams on the motorway at 120 mph (no kidding -
tri webers, polished, ported 6;3;1 extractor & XJS exhaust S/T SS
ehx, o/d & 3.45)for a pre MOT 'spin'? With either:- A) Original
plates B) Very rude 'temporary' plates C) 'Area 51' novelty plates
I daresay SFA - unless some half awake highway 'interceptor' police
patrolmen looked out of their windows, or (more likely) had just had
their ears syringed, and had an open window 3 - 400 yards away?
In the good old days she'd have been back behind the hedge so quick,
I'd be nursing a drink and laughing through the window as they went
round the block five or six times, but I daresay a helicopter would
have landed in the back garden, or a drone already destroyed the
house with Hellfire missiles before I even got home nowadays?
Good for Youtube maybe, but... where has all the FUN of driving gone
these days? When I started, the Police used to arrest skinheads - now
they all seem to BE skinheads?
