I've got a 2L MK3 Ford Capri Laser that I want to convert from auto to
manual.

I'm taking everything I need off the manual i.e speedo, cables,
pedalbox, prop, gearbox X member, centre console trim etc.

The only thing I'm unsure about is the spigot bearing on the autoboxed
engine crankshaft. I know there's been issues on other makes of car
where the hole for the spigot bearing was either absent or the wrong
size.

I know you're going to tell me it's easier just to swap the lot as a
single unit but the bottom end on the engine of this auto is excellent
whereas its unkown for the other.

Any info would be greatly appreciated.

The crank is the same, just fit the correct needle roller bearing.
I have done this several times.

High up on the bulkhead in the engine bay there is a relay on the
passengerside fitted only to automatics. This will have to be earthed. I
seem to remember that this is the inhibit relay so that the car can not be
started in drive.

Ask me how I know about this one!!!!

You will need a standard spigot bearing in the end of the crank.

I also seem to recall that I had to modify the gearbox crossmember as the
mounting was in a different position on the body. This may have been due to
the fact that I was using parts from a Mk2 to change a Mk3 auto.
